It’s not often you see a horse, a recycling bin, and a tuque playing tug of war together. That’s what makes Festival du Voyageur’s Mascot Challenge such a popular activity during Winnipeg’s annual French Canadian festival.
People of all ages gathered in the middle of Voyageur Park on Saturday, February 20, to watch Winnipeg’s mascots challenge each other in various games. The crowd greeted the mascots with cheers and a quick photo session before the challenge began.
It started with the hay bale races where Mick E. Moose came to BINjamin, the Recycle Everywhere mascot’s, rescue after BINjamin’s recycling bin outfit prevented him from lifting the hay bale.
Then, a friendly game of tug of war that deemed everyone a winner despite the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ mascot, Boomer, being pulled across the pylon marker.
Once the games were over, the mascots hung around for more photos and fun with everyone at the festival.
